M and J came to us having outgrown their existing home in Leopold with three kids and a lifestyle that needed more room. We connected them with Shinae at Freckle Architecture in Ocean Grove and stayed close through the design process before moving into pre-construction and getting the build underway.

The existing home was brick veneer throughout. Through the design process the scope evolved to ensure the most consistent finish possible across the whole home, extending out the front, extending out the side, a full renovation throughout and a complete reroof. By the time we were done, not much of the original remained. What stands now looks almost brand new. A beautiful single storey four bedroom home with two living areas, two bathrooms, a brand new kitchen with walk in pantry and a separate study that gives this family everything they need.

M had enormous input through the selections process. Colour schemes, finishes, joinery choices, his eye for detail ran through everything and you can feel it in the result. We grew genuinely close to M and J through this one and that connection is something we hold close.

The finishes are a real highlight. Raked VJ lining board ceilings through the living area create an incredible sense of height and space, the wood fire in the corner adds a warmth to the room. A bank of three Velux skylights over the island bench floods the kitchen with natural light. European oak timber floors and a spacious galley style walk in robe with LED strip lighting under the kickers. The winner as soon as you pull up is the Australian hardwood shiplap cladding and soffit wrapping under the entry and across the entry door. Every detail works seamlessly together on this one and we absolutely love that this beautiful family now get to enjoy growing up together in a Built by Hammond home.
