THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BUILD

Our Story

Built By Hammond started with the simple decision, to build something of our own.
After years working alongside some of the Bellarine's leading custom builders, we saw an opportunity to create a company that combined exceptional craftsmanship with a better client experience. So we backed ourselves and launched SJ Hammond Constructions, focusing on high end carpentry, bespoke projects and subcontract work for other builders.

What began with weekend jobs and a small crew quickly gained momentum. Ray joined early as our first qualified carpenter, followed by apprentices, carpenters and long term team members who helped shape the business into what it is today. Most of our growth came through word of mouth and clients trusting us to do what we said we would.

Those early years taught us a lot. Every challenge helped refine the way we operate. Better systems. Better communication. Better planning. Higher standards across every part of the build.

That growth led to the next chapter. We became registered builders and launched Built By Hammond.

Today, we specialise in architectural homes, renovations and extensions across the Bellarine, Geelong and the Surf Coast. We focus on craftsmanship, communication, client experience and delivering projects properly from start to finish.

Over the years, we've evolved into a full design and build company, taking on increasingly detailed architectural projects while also offering custom homes through our own in house design and build process.

Whether we're collaborating with architects and designers or leading projects internally from concept to completion, we've built a team and process we're genuinely proud of. Our team includes construction management, dedicated project managers, qualified carpenters, apprentices and office staff, all working towards the same standard we set from day one.

At the end of the day, our people are our greatest asset. They're the reason we can confidently stand behind our work, deliver on our promises and build homes with the same care and attention that started this journey.

What Makes Us Different

We came up through the tools

Every construction manager and project manager on our team started on the tools. They understand the build from the ground up because they've built it themselves. That practical experience means better decisions, fewer surprises and a deeper understanding of what it takes to deliver a quality result.

Design and build under one roof

By bringing design and construction together from the start, we're able to create homes that are not only beautiful but genuinely buildable. Our design team works closely with our construction team throughout the process, helping identify opportunities, resolve challenges early and create plans that work just aswell on site as they do on paper.

Local to the Bellarine

This is our backyard. We live here, work here and are proud to call the Bellarine home. We understand the people, the environment and what it takes to deliver a well built home in this part of the world. That local knowledge and connection influences every project we take on.
